Hi, all my crafty friends and family!!!
Here it is Saturday once again . . .
and you know what that means, don't you???
That's right . . . not only is it time for a new challenge over at Hiding in My Craft Room, but since it is the 1st Saturday of the month, it is time for a color challenge. So this week's challenge is "Fall Colors". And isn't that just perfect as it being the 1st day of November and the weather is definitely "fall" weather . . . at least around here. Yesterday the high was 43 degrees and the low was in the 20s - BRRR!!! :) I actually had to turn the heat up.
Our sponsor this week is
Sami Stamps
For this week's challenge, I chose a digi called "
Two Pumpkins" from
Sami Stamps and put together a little wall hanging. I chose pumpkins because nothing reminds me of Fall orThanksgiving more than seeing the pumpkin fields ready for harvest. Here's how my wall hanging turned out:
Supplies:
"Haunted Hallow" 6x6 paper pad by American Crafts (orange paper & words)
"Pumpkin" Scrapper's Spool floss from Karen Foster Designs
yellow, orange, purple & brown/black Gelatos (sorry, can't read the actual names)
translucent embossing paste by Wendy Venchi for Studio 490
"Scary Background" die (#1078) by Poppy Stamps
"Knotted Wood" chalk ink by Prima
misc. sequins
misc. metal eyelet "stickers"
black drawing ink (to make splashes)
For this wall hanging , I used a piece of Heavenly White 120# that I had embossed on a couple of weeks on with the "Scary Background" die to see if I wanted to use a solid color or patterned paper for that project (I decided to used the patterned paper for that project). So I decided to try a technique I saw on
S.W.A.T. (Scrap Warriors Advanced Training) that a friend of mine did for their
October Basic Training using translucent embossing paste and gelatos along with using
S.W.A.T.'s Drill #42 (a color challenge for October) . . . I was in hopes to be able to post it for their October challenge, but since I couldn't post my wall hanging here on my blog till today (November 1st), I wasn't able to enter it on time.
The first thing I did was brush a thin layer of embossing paste over the entire piece of paper. In the original instructions, Michele used clear gesso . . . but I couldn't find mine, so I used translucent embossing pasted instead.. After drying, I colored with gelatos and then used my fingers to gently blend them together. (I'm a little disappointed that the purple didn't show up well due to adding the image . . . Oh, well!!!) I then splattered water here and there and gently blotted dry. (Click either
HERE or on the actual names of the drills/training in the above paragraph to see the full instructions and/or colors S.W.A.T. used.) I set this aside and went to work on the rest of my wall hanging.
After coloring my image with my Copics, I adhered all my layers . . . add the "pumpkin" colored floss under my image, Then added sequins here and there . . . a few flicks (or splats) of black drawing ink and . . . VOILA! I was done!!! And though I don't have this on my wall (YET), I do have it displayed on one of those plate holder thingies. lol
Here's a closeup of the embossing:
Remember, you have one week (till Saturday Nov. 8th at 2am PST) to get your projects in for the "Fall Colors" challenge. We can't wait to see what you come up with this week.
Till the next time I'm up in the night.
